“Street photography gives me a voyeuristic high. The space, the moment — freeze it, exalt it and further dramatize it. I thrive in my role as a lens person.”
Joyotee (or Joy, as she is often called) is a visual artist who creates in several mediums, from painting to installation to photography. Born in Mumbai to a father who worked prolifically in Bollywood as a creative director on movie sets, she grew up being nurtured and encouraged to pursue art.
She moved to Singapore 21 years ago and began working professionally as a painter. Her work has been exhibited in Singapore, Germany, Spain, Dubai, India, Taiwan and the US. Her photos have been selected for a Travel Photography exhibition for Blank Wall Gallery in Athens in 2017 and most recently, she was one of the artists chosen to take part in 19art81.c0m’s photography exhibition in Chicago this April.
As an artist who first trained in painting on canvases, Joy has a strikingly unique eye behind the camera; whether she’s taking a portrait, shooting scenery, everyday objects or doing street photography — she never stops creating art. You can find her work at www.kamerajoy.com and on instagram @kamerajoy.
