“Street photography gives me a voyeuristic high. The space, the moment — freeze it, exalt it and further dramatize it. I thrive in my role as a lens person.”

Croatia is truly a photographers paradise. To see the beauty of this land in all its splendour, one needs to take a driving holiday. This was shot at the famous Plitvus Lakes.

Budapest. Love. Black-and-white. What more can I say?

A spontaneous trip last year to Japan yielded a visit to Lake Kawaguichi for the autumn festival. Caught sight of snow-capped Mount Fuji the morning after some snowfall. The kind of serendipitous moment that shutterbugs live for. I nicknamed this shot Fujired.

My partner, the ever-meticulous trip planner, found a gem of an Airbnb apartment with this stunning coastal view of Dubrovnik, Croatia. Just sitting by the window with a cup of hot chocolate made the climb up worthwhile. For my partner, however, it was all about the Game of Thrones.

In the City of Joy, Kolkata, the place of my parents’ roots. I need a local guide to show me locations for street photography. My subject here is a good friend, local writer and filmmaker, Arkajyoti Bharadwaj.

An ordinary day in Singapore. I use my iPhone for everyday quick clicks because you never know what you might see, especially when you look up.

Joyotee (or Joy, as she is often called) is a visual artist who creates in several mediums, from painting to installation to photography. Born in Mumbai to a father who worked prolifically in Bollywood as a creative director on movie sets, she grew up being nurtured and encouraged to pursue art.

She moved to Singapore 21 years ago and began working professionally as a painter. Her work has been exhibited in Singapore, Germany, Spain, Dubai, India, Taiwan and the US. Her photos have been selected for a Travel Photography exhibition for Blank Wall Gallery in Athens in 2017 and most recently, she was one of the artists chosen to take part in 19art81.c0m’s photography exhibition in Chicago this April.

As an artist who first trained in painting on canvases, Joy has a strikingly unique eye behind the camera; whether she’s taking a portrait, shooting scenery, everyday objects or doing street photography — she never stops creating art. You can find her work at www.kamerajoy.com and on instagram @kamerajoy.
